Bangladesh has appointed a UK based law firm to represent its state run power utility in arbitration proceedings related to coal pricing and electricity tariffs involving Adani Power Limited, according to officials on January 30, 2026, as per PTI report.
The Bangladesh Power Development Board has appointed London based law firm 3VP to represent it before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
The mediation relates to disputes with Adani Power Limited over coal pricing and power tariffs under an existing power supply agreement.
The arbitration process was initiated after Adani Power raised a claim last year seeking unpaid dues of $485 million linked to coal based electricity tariffs. Bangladesh has countered the claim, stating that the coal prices charged were excessive and led to higher electricity generation costs.

A national review committee examined power sector agreements signed during the previous Awami League government. The committee submitted its final report within 5 days before the appointment of the UK law firm. Officials stated that evidence related to pricing concerns was also shared with the Anti Corruption Commission for further investigation.
Adani Power supplies 1,600 MW of electricity to Bangladesh from its Godda power plant in Jharkhand. Bangladesh cleared outstanding dues by making a one time payment of $437 million in June 2025, settling receivables up to March 31, 2025. Full power supply was restored after the payment was completed.
As of January 30, 2026, at 2:42 PM, Adani Power share price on NSE was trading at ₹133.94 up by 0.04% from the previous closing price.
The appointment of a UK law firm marks a formal step by Bangladesh in addressing its arbitration proceedings with Adani Power over coal pricing and tariffs. The matter is currently proceeding through mediation under international arbitration rules.
