As per a Financial Express news report, Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi), currently burdened by heavy debt, is intensifying efforts to resolve its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues worth ₹78,500 crore.
The telecom operator is in close consultation with the government and engaging banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) to arrange long-term funding, which is contingent on regulatory clarity and favourable resolution.
CEO Abhijit Kishore stated during the Q2 FY26 earnings call that following a favourable Supreme Court order, the company anticipates a reassessment of the AGR dues, including penalties and interest, for the period up to FY17.
This reassessment is crucial since Vodafone Idea’s ability to secure long-term financing from banks will largely depend on clarity over these dues. The court’s directive allows the government to re-evaluate the outstanding claims, giving the telco a potential pathway for relief.
As of September 30, 2025, Vi's total debt stood at ₹2,02,409 crore. This comprises ₹1,542 crore in bank loans and ₹2,01,409 crore in deferred spectrum payments and AGR dues, which are staggered until FY44 and FY31, respectively.
Despite recording a net loss of ₹5,524 crore for the July to September quarter, the company showed improvement from ₹6,595 crore in the same quarter last year, helped by increased ARPU and reduced finance costs.
Kishore mentioned that Vi is prioritising the expansion and enhancement of network infrastructure to improve customer experience. A portion of the upcoming capital is aimed at increasing network capacity.
The reduction in finance costs, now at ₹4,784.4 crore compared to ₹6,613.6 crore a year ago, reflects eased bank debt pressure, aiding the company's financial management.
