TVS Mobility Group and Palfinger are to establish a new Pune-based plant to manufacture truck-mounted cranes, as per news reports. Palfinger will invest €30 million, or roughly ₹350 crore, in the first phase. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
The company has operated in India since 2007, largely through imports supported by local assembly.
The Pune unit is planned with an initial annual capacity of more than 1,000 units. Production will focus on truck-mounted cranes and selected steel components. Supplies will serve both domestic customers and export markets in Asia-Pacific and other regions.
Around 200 jobs are expected to be created in the first phase. The site has provision for capacity expansion, depending on demand. At present, a large share of equipment sold in India is imported. Local production is projected to lower costs by up to 30%, according to company estimates.
Under the agreement, TVS Mobility Group will manage supply chain operations, logistics, installation, warehousing and spare parts distribution for equipment manufactured in India. It will also oversee sales support and aftermarket service.
The partnership does not involve equity participation and has no defined end date. The companies have described the arrangement as long term in nature, covering the full product lifecycle.
The investment comes as infrastructure activity continues across railways, metro systems, highways, housing, waste management, and defence. As projects move into smaller towns and remote regions, equipment maintenance and parts availability have become operational factors.
Palfinger reported global revenues of about €2.5 billion. Under its “Strategy 2030 plus” plan, the company expects India to account for a double-digit share of global revenues over time.
Separately, Palfinger has set up a global engineering centre in Pune in partnership with L&T Technology Services to support product development for international markets.
