
Reliance Retail is the retail initiative of Reliance Industries Limited has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 7th position among the top 100 most valuable privately held, venture capital-backed companies worldwide.
This recognition comes from the Venture Capital Initiative of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, which evaluated companies based on data up to January 2026.
Reliance Retail, owned by Mukesh Ambani, boasts a post-money valuation exceeding $100 billion. It is one of the 7 companies with a valuation over $100 billion, known as hectacorns.
The company is supported by prominent global private equity players such as Qatar Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, KKR, Silverlake, GIC, TPG, and Mubadala.
Despite being the only retail company in the top 7, Reliance Retail's valuation is significantly lower than AI giants like OpenAI, valued at $852 billion, and SpaceX at $400 billion.
India has placed 3 companies in the top 100 list. Apart from Reliance Retail, NSE India ranks 27th with a valuation of $24 billion, while Tata EV Mobility is 93rd with a valuation of $9 billion.
The combined valuation of these Indian companies is $133 billion, nearly a fifth of the collective valuation of 21 Chinese companies at $634 billion.

The United States leads with 65 companies in the top 100, followed by China with 21, and both India and the UK with 3 each. Germany has 2 companies on the list.
The top 3 companies, OpenAI, SpaceX, and Anthropic, account for a third of the total valuation of the top 100 firms.
Reliance Retail's position as the 7th most valuable VC-backed private firm globally underscores its significant impact in the retail sector. Alongside other Indian companies like NSE India and Tata EV Mobility, it highlights India's growing presence in the global market.
