The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has introduced Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs), offering investors a digital and exchange-traded way to invest in physical gold. EGRs function similarly to stocks and bonds, but each receipt is backed by actual physical gold stored in SEBI-regulated vaults.
The launch of EGRs marks a significant step towards creating a transparent and regulated gold ecosystem in India. Investors can now trade gold electronically while benefiting from market-based price discovery, secure electronic holding, and the flexibility to convert digital gold into physical gold whenever required.
Let’s take a closer look at how much gold investors can buy through the EGR platform.
One of the biggest advantages of EGRs is flexibility in investment size. Investors can buy very small quantities of gold or larger institutional-sized quantities depending on their investment preference.
The smallest EGR trading unit available is:
| Feature | Details |
| Product | GLD100MG95 |
| Trading Unit | 1 unit of EGR equivalent to 100 milligrams of gold |
| Deposit/Withdrawal Unit | 1 gram |
This allows retail investors to start investing in gold with relatively small amounts.
| Feature | Details |
| Product | GLD1KG999 |
| Trading Unit | 1 unit of EGR equivalent to 100 grams of gold |
| Deposit/Withdrawal Unit | 1000 grams (1 kilogram) |
This structure is designed to cater to both retail and institutional investors.
NSE offers EGR products in two purity categories — 999 purity and 995 purity.
| EGR – 999 Purity Products | EGR – 995 Purity Products |
| GLD1KG99 | GLD1KG95 |
| GOLD100G99 | GOLD100G95 |
| GOLD10G99 | GOLD10G95 |
| GOLD1G99 | GOLD1G95 |
| GLD100MG99 | GLD100MG95 |
