As per The Economic Times report, Neville Tata, son of Noel Tata, likely to join the board of Sir Ratan Tata Trust this week. This addition underlines a strategic shift within the Tata Trusts network and further establishes Neville’s presence in key roles within the conglomerate.
As per report, this development comes shortly after his induction into the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust board in November 2025. Aged 32, Neville is currently heading Star Bazaar, the hypermarket segment under Trent, part of the Westside retail umbrella.
Going forward, with the latest board role shall bring him into the ranks of prominent trustees responsible for overseeing the substantial holdings and philanthropic initiatives managed through Tata Trusts.
His responsibilities now may span across four major Tata Trusts; Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Sir Ratan Tata Trust, RD Tata Trust and the Tata Social Welfare Trust, reflecting the group's integration of next-generation leadership.
Neville Tata’s induction is being viewed as a move to reinforce Noel Tata's influence after he took over as chairman of Tata Trusts in October 2024, following Ratan Tata’s passing. With Noel assuming leadership, there has been visible restructuring at the trustee level amid shifts in governance strategy and regulatory changes.
These developments arrive in a period of adaptation for Tata Trusts, especially with regard to trustee tenures. With the Maharashtra Public Trusts (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, lifetime trustee appointments are limited and subject to annual reappointment reviews once trustees cross 75 years of age.

Senior trustees including Pramit Jhaveri, Darius Khambata, Mehli Mistry and Jehangir HC Jehangir are either nearing term completions or have opposed recent decisions related to board realignments.
Pramit Jhaveri's term at the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust ends on February 11, 2026. His prior opposition, along with 3 others, to Vijay Singh’s reappointment to the Tata Sons board last year contributed to broader tensions among the Trust's decision-makers.
The Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust collectively own more than 51% of Tata Sons, the principal holding company for the conglomerate. Governance decisions within these trusts carry direct implications for the direction and control of Tata group operations.
With executive changes and the addition of younger leadership figures such as Neville Tata, the board composition of these trusts continues to evolve.
Neville Tata is likely to join the Sir Ratan Tata Trust board, marking another step in the Tata family’s ongoing structural shift within Tata Trusts. The move, if confirmed, would align with recent governance changes and underscore a strengthening leadership profile under Noel Tata.
