
The life insurance sector recorded a total assets under management of ₹67.78 lakh crore as of March 2025, marking a rise from ₹61.57 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year.
The sector’s AUM increased by roughly 10% year on year. The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) reported assets of ₹48 lakh crore, up from ₹44.24 lakh crore, reflecting an 8.5% increase and representing about 71% of the industry’s total assets.
SBI Life posted assets of ₹4.45 lakh crore, while HDFC Life and ICICI Prudential Life reported ₹3.31 lakh crore and ₹3.03 lakh crore respectively.
Following LIC, the next largest insurers are SBI Life with ₹4.45 lakh crore, HDFC Life with ₹3.31 lakh crore, ICICI Prudential Life with ₹3.03 lakh crore, Axis Max Life with ₹1.72 lakh crore, Bajaj Allianz Life with ₹1.24 lakh crore, Tata AIA Life with ₹1.21 lakh crore, Aditya Birla Sun Life with ₹1.00 lakh crore, Kotak Mahindra Life with ₹91,000 crore and PNB MetLife with ₹54,000 crore.

Private life insurers collectively recorded a growth rate of about 14% in FY25, outpacing LIC’s 8.5% rise. Go Digit Life achieved the highest percentage increase at 319% from a modest base, while CreditAccess Life grew by 54%.
Tata AIA Life, Star Union Dai‑ichi Life and Edelweiss Life posted growth of approximately 25%, 25% and 18% respectively.
The life insurance industry’s AUM reached ₹67.78 lakh crore in FY25, with LIC maintaining a dominant share of 71%. Private insurers demonstrated faster growth, contributing to an overall sector expansion of 10%.
