The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of ₹27.38 crore on Intel Corporation for violating provisions of the Competition Act, 2002. The order was issued on 12 February 2026 under Section 27 of the Act, after the regulator found the company had abused its dominant position in the market.
As per the news reports, the case was examined under Section 4 of the Act, which deals with abuse of dominance.
The proceedings began after Matrix Info Systems Private Limited filed information before the CCI under Section 19(1)(a). The complaint related to changes made by Intel to its warranty policy for boxed microprocessors in India.
From 25 April 2016, Intel allowed warranty claims in India only for processors purchased from its authorised Indian distributors. Products sourced from authorised distributors in other countries were not covered under the Indian warranty terms.
The CCI held that Intel was dominant in the relevant market for boxed microprocessors for desktop computers in India. It found the India-specific warranty policy to be different from the company’s warranty practices in China, Australia and other global markets.
According to the regulator, the policy restricted the options available to consumers and parallel importers. It concluded that the arrangement had an appreciable adverse effect on Indian consumers.
The regulator noted that the policy had remained in force for 8 years. It calculated the penalty at 8% of Intel’s average relevant turnover for that period.
However, the CCI considered mitigating factors, including the company’s decision to discontinue the policy from 1 April 2024. After this adjustment, the final penalty was set at ₹27.38 crore.

The Commission has directed Intel to publicise the withdrawal of the India-specific warranty policy. The company has also been asked to submit a compliance report to the regulator within the prescribed time.
