Nvidia and Microsoft have announced a combined investment of $15 billion in Anthropic, the developer behind the Claude AI models. The fresh capital arrives as competition accelerates across the global AI sector, with leading companies racing to secure advanced infrastructure, computing power and strategic alliances.
Major Investment and Expanded Partnership
Nvidia plans to deploy up to $10 billion, while Microsoft will contribute up to $5 billion. As part of a broader agreement, Anthropic will commit to purchasing $30 billion worth of Microsoft’s cloud computing capacity and adopting the latest generation of Nvidia’s chip technology.
As per the news reports, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “We’re increasingly going to be customers of each other. We will use Anthropic models. They will use our infrastructure, and we’ll go to market together to help our customers realise the value of AI.”
Anthropic, launched in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, positions itself around safety-focused AI development. The investment supports expanded model deployment and deeper integration with Microsoft’s Azure ecosystem, while complementing Nvidia’s push to supply its GPUs to major AI developers worldwide.
AI Market Landscape and Company Valuations
The deal signals a major realignment within the generative AI segment, where rivalry among OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Amazon, Meta and xAI continues to intensify. As per CNBC report the transaction places Anthropic at a valuation of $350 billion, compared with OpenAI’s most recent $500 billion valuation.
Recent months have also seen significant industry movements. Nvidia announced plans to invest up to $100 billion into OpenAI to build future computing infrastructure, and OpenAI entered a $38 billion agreement with Amazon’s AWS. Nvidia has additionally committed $5 billion to Intel in a move backed by the US.
