Retail Inflation Jumps to 0.71% in November, from 0.25% in October

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for November 2025 indicates a year-on-year inflation rate of 0.71% across India. This marks a 46 basis points increase compared to October 2025. The data reveals varied inflation trends across rural and urban sectors. 

Headline Inflation Overview 

In November 2025, the All-India CPI recorded a 0.71% inflation rate compared to the same month in 2024. This represents a notable rise from October 2025.  

The increase is primarily driven by higher prices in categories such as vegetables, eggs, meat and fish, spices, and fuel and light. 

Food Inflation Trends 

Food inflation, as measured by the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), showed a decline of -3.91% year-on-year in November 2025.  

Rural areas experienced a -4.05% rate, while urban areas saw a -3.60% decrease. Despite the negative figures, there was an increase of 111 basis points from October 2025. 

Rural and Urban Inflation 

Rural inflation saw a slight increase to 0.10% in November 2025 from -0.25% in October 2025. Food inflation in rural areas improved to -4.05% from -4.85%.  

Urban inflation rose to 1.40% from 0.88% in the previous month, with food inflation improving to -3.60% from -5.18%. 

Sector-Specific Inflation Rates 

Housing inflation for November 2025 was 2.95%, slightly down from 2.96% in October 2025. Education inflation decreased to 3.38% from 3.54%, while health inflation dropped to 3.60% from 3.81%.  

Transport and communication inflation was 0.88%, down from 0.94%. Fuel and light inflation increased to 2.32% from 1.98%.

Conclusion 

The November 2025 CPI data reflects a mixed inflationary environment in India, with overall inflation rising slightly. While food inflation remains negative, it shows signs of improvement. Sector-specific inflation rates indicate varied trends, with some sectors experiencing declines and others seeing increases.
