India has indicated that its crude oil purchases from Russia have remained consistent regardless of changes linked to US sanctions waivers, underlining the country’s continued focus on energy security and commercial viability.
As per the Reuters report, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in India’s Petroleum Ministry, said India has continued importing Russian crude before, during and after the period linked to American sanctions waivers.
Speaking during a media briefing, Sharma stated that India’s procurement decisions are primarily driven by commercial considerations rather than waiver-related developments.
According to her, there is currently no shortage of crude supplies available for the country.
She also said India has repeatedly secured sufficient crude sourcing arrangements to maintain supply stability.
The comments come amid continued geopolitical uncertainty in global energy markets and ongoing discussions surrounding Russian oil trade flows.
Sharma clarified that changes relating to waivers “will not affect” India’s oil procurement plans, signalling confidence in the country’s supply management strategy.
The Petroleum Ministry’s remarks also reflect India’s broader approach of diversifying crude sourcing while ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for domestic consumption.
International crude markets have remained sensitive to geopolitical tensions, sanctions developments and supply disruptions over the past several months.
Despite this volatility, India has continued balancing energy security needs with pricing and commercial considerations in its crude import strategy.
