Uber has introduced Uber Direct on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), moving into business-to-business deliveries, as per CNBC-TV18 reports.

The service is currently active in Bengaluru, where riders are completing grocery orders for Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh. This is the first phase of the company’s logistics operations on the open-commerce network.

How the Delivery System Works

Uber Direct operates separately from the company’s consumer-facing courier service. Orders are placed on a seller’s website or app, routed through ONDC, and then allocated to Uber riders.

Customers do not use Uber during the ordering process, and the platform only appears at the point of delivery. Uber said the service uses its existing base of 1.4 million drivers across India.

Sellers and Categories on the Network

The launch begins with grocery fulfilment but is expected to extend to more categories as sellers complete their ONDC setup. Restaurant chains including KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Rebel Foods are part of the upcoming additions.

Under the ONDC model, the seller handles the customer interface, while Uber’s role is limited to supply-side fulfilment.

Metro Ticketing Rolled Out in Bengaluru

Uber has also expanded its metro ticketing feature to Bengaluru via the same ONDC integration. Users can buy metro tickets through the Uber app, although the transaction is processed through ONDC.

Similar services were rolled out earlier in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. ONDC stated that more metro networks are expected to join as integrations continue.

Use of ONDC by Mobility Platforms

Uber’s additions come at a time when more mobility services are connecting to ONDC for both transport-related and delivery functions.

Competitors have also introduced metro ticketing features in major cities, showing a shift toward public transport integrations and open-network fulfilment models.
