Mortgage lender Truhome Finance has appointed former Dinesh Kumar Khara as its chairperson for a 5-year term.
The appointment was announced through an exchange filing. Khara will serve in a non-executive capacity. The change is effective from the date mentioned in the filing, subject to statutory requirements.
Truhome Finance operates in the housing finance segment, offering home loans to individual borrowers. The company functions in a sector where lending is typically long-term and closely regulated.
Housing finance firms are required to maintain capital adequacy, asset quality and compliance standards. Board oversight plays a role in policy decisions and regulatory alignment.
Khara previously served as chairman of State Bank of India, India’s largest public sector bank. During his tenure, SBI completed the merger of 5 associate banks. The consolidation also included Bharatiya Mahila Bank.
The merger, completed in 2017, involved the integration of branches, staff and banking systems.
Before becoming chairman, Khara held several senior positions within the SBI group. He served as managing director overseeing global banking operations and subsidiaries. He was also chief executive officer of SBI Mutual Fund. The asset management arm handles equity, debt and hybrid investment schemes.
Khara also led key internal functions at SBI. These included risk management, information technology and compliance. Such functions are central to monitoring credit exposure, systems stability and regulatory reporting. They form part of routine oversight in large financial institutions.
