Income Tax Dept Launches ‘Kar Saathi’ Website Ahead of ITR Season: AI Chatbot, Simpler Filing Promised

The Income Tax Department has rolled out a new taxpayer-focused website, ‘Kar Saathi’, aimed at simplifying direct tax processes and improving user experience ahead of the upcoming ITR filing season.
Announced on April 2, the platform brings together all income tax-related services and information in one place, with a focus on ease of use, faster navigation, and digital assistance. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push towards a technology-driven tax ecosystem.
Kar Saathi: AI-Powered Assistance for Taxpayers
The new portal introduces ‘Kar Saathi’, an AI-enabled chatbot designed to provide round-the-clock support to taxpayers. According to Income Tax Department, the chatbot aims to guide users through various tax-related processes, making compliance more accessible.
The department highlighted that the revamped website is:
- Simpler to navigate
- Faster in performance
- A single-point access for all tax-related information
While the move signals a major digital upgrade, early user reactions suggest cautious optimism, with some hoping for improved stability compared to previous platforms.
Linked to New Income Tax Act Rollout
The launch aligns with the implementation of the Income Tax Act, 2025, and ongoing reforms under the ‘PRARAMBH’ initiative.
Speaking earlier, Ravi Agrawal, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, said the department is introducing digital tools and guidance systems in phases to ensure a smooth transition.
Under PRARAMBH, significant simplification has already been undertaken:
- Rules reduced from 510 to 333
- Forms cut from 399 to 190
- Over 2,200 FAQs and guidance notes introduced
The initiative aims to eliminate compliance requirements for more than six crore transactions, improving efficiency for taxpayers.
Focus on Simplicity and Citizen-Centric Approach
The government has emphasised a “citizen-first” approach, aiming to make tax administration more transparent and responsive. The new platform is expected to bridge the gap between regulatory reforms and taxpayer awareness through multilingual content, digital tools, and outreach campaigns.
By combining AI assistance with simplified processes, the department is attempting to reduce friction in tax filing and improve overall compliance experience.

Conclusion
The launch of the Kar Saathi website marks a significant step in India’s ongoing tax digitisation journey. As the ITR season approaches, the effectiveness of this platform will depend on its usability, stability, and ability to deliver on its promise of a seamless, taxpayer-friendly experience.
