LIC has expanded its distribution network by inducting women agents under the government-backed Bima Sakhi Yojana, strengthening rural outreach and policy penetration.
Life Insurance Corporation of India has recruited 2.90 lakh women agents under the Bima Sakhi Yojana introduced in December 2024.
According to a release issued by the Press Information Bureau, these agents have sold more than 14 lakh policies within a year and now represent over 50% of the country’s panchayats.
Under the scheme, Bima Sakhis receives a monthly stipend for the first 3 years along with commission on policies sold. The stipend begins at ₹7,000 per month in the first year and declines to ₹5,000 per month in the third year.
M Nagaraju, Secretary at the Department of Financial Services, said, “the agency force is LIC’s biggest asset.” He stated that the wide agent network enables presence and trust across regions.
Under the Jeevan Samarth initiative, LIC’s agency force has expanded to more than 14.8 lakh agents, with a focus on the 18 to 40 age group.
Nagaraju added, “LIC is not just an insurance company but a systemically important institution for India’s financial stability.”
LIC manages assets worth ₹57.23 lakh crore. Nagaraju urged faster adoption of digital and mobile services to achieve the Insurance for All 2047 objectives, while expanding coverage and keeping services accessible.
