As per news reports, the board of Infosys is expected to initiate discussions on CEO succession this week, as current chief executive Salil Parekh approaches the final phase of his tenure ending in March 2027. The move signals early planning for leadership continuity at a time when the IT sector faces structural and cyclical challenges.
According to reports, Infosys may grant Parekh a limited extension of up to two years rather than a full five-year term. With the company’s retirement age set at 60 and Parekh already 61, a shorter extension is seen as a practical approach to facilitate an orderly succession process.
The board is keen to avoid disruptions that marked earlier leadership transitions. A phased transition is expected to allow adequate time to identify and groom a successor while maintaining operational stability.
The succession discussions are likely to take place during the upcoming board meeting, coinciding with the company’s Q4 FY26 results announcement. Leadership clarity has become increasingly important as the global IT services industry navigates AI-led disruption, slower deal pipelines, and pricing pressures.
Infosys shares have reportedly declined over 25% from peak levels, reflecting broader sector concerns. In this context, a well-managed leadership transition could help reassure investors and support long-term strategic execution.
Under Parekh’s leadership, Infosys has witnessed a significant turnaround, with its market capitalisation rising to around ₹5.44 lakh crore, more than doubling during his tenure. His period at the helm is widely regarded as one of stability following earlier years of leadership churn.
The company had previously experienced senior-level exits during transitions, particularly around the return of N. R. Narayana Murthy and the appointment of Vishal Sikka. Parekh, along with chairman Nandan Nilekani, is credited with restoring organisational stability.

Infosys’ early move to initiate CEO succession planning reflects a proactive approach to governance. With industry uncertainties rising, a structured and timely transition could play a key role in sustaining growth momentum and investor confidence in the coming years.
