The Union Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting Indian farmers from international market volatility by ensuring the availability of essential fertilizers at affordable prices for the ongoing Rabi 2025-26 season. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers announced that the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) will remain stable at ₹1,350 per 50 kg bag.

To maintain this price stability, the government has introduced special provisions amounting to ₹3,500 per metric tonne to cover additional costs, including logistics from factory to farm gate, GST components, and a guaranteed 4% reasonable return for manufacturers. This measure ensures that fluctuations in global prices do not translate into increased costs for farmers.

Adequate Supply and State-Wise Monitoring

As of March 5, 2026, the supply of Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers across the country remains sufficient:

  • DAP: Available quantity of 71.89 LMT exceeds the pro-rata requirement of 51.38 LMT.
  • Muriate of Potash (MOP): Stock at 18.17 LMT surpasses the requirement of 14.18 LMT.
  • NPKS fertilizers: Total availability of 108.39 LMT significantly outpaces the pro-rata demand of 76.48 LMT.

The Ministry uses the integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS), a real-time online platform, to monitor the movement of all subsidised fertilisers. Coordination with the Ministry of Railways prioritises rake movement, ensuring the timely dispatch of fertiliser stocks to states.

Encouraging Balanced Nutrient Use

Under the revised Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) policy, additional fertilizer grades such as 10:26:26 and 12:32:16 have been included. Subsidies are calibrated based on the exact nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potash (K) content, enabling farmers to select fertilizers tailored to their crop and soil needs.

The average retail prices (per 50 kg bag) for these key grades in 2025-26 are:

  • NPK 10-26-26: ₹1,814.82
  • NPK 12-32-16: ₹1,711.87
  • Muriate of Potash (MOP): ₹1,710.54

This approach not only promotes balanced nutrient application but also aims to reduce over-dependence on urea, supporting long-term soil health and sustainability.
