Bharat Forge Limited has strengthened its defence manufacturing footprint after securing its largest-ever small arms order from the Ministry of Defence. The contract reinforces India’s push towards indigenisation of critical military equipment under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The Ministry of Defence has awarded Bharat Forge a contract valued at ₹1,661.9 crore for the supply of 2,55,128 Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbines of 5.56 x 45 mm calibre to the Indian Army.
The agreement was signed on December 30, 2025, with execution scheduled over a 5-year period. The carbine has been designed, developed and manufactured in India, qualifying under the Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.
The CQB Carbine has been jointly developed by the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) under DRDO and Bharat Forge. The weapon system is designed for compactness and operational effectiveness in close-combat environments.
The project aligns with the government’s objective of reducing reliance on imports while building domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
Bharat Forge, along with its wholly owned defence subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited, continues to expand its defence portfolio across small arms, artillery systems and advanced platforms.
The contract further positions the company as a key private-sector supplier to India’s armed forces and highlights its growing role in national security manufacturing.
