India's top 4 IT firms, TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Wipro have released their Q1FY26 results, revealing changes in attrition rates, employee headcounts and hiring trends amid global business uncertainty.
In Q1FY26, only HCL Tech maintained a flat attrition rate at 12.8%, matching its Q4FY25 figure. TCS saw its attrition rate increase to 13.8% from 13.3%, Infosys reported a rise to 14.4% from 14.1%, and Wipro recorded an increase from 15% to 15.1%. A lower attrition rate generally reflects higher employee satisfaction and organisational stability.
In terms of workforce, TCS led with a headcount of 6,13,069, adding 6,071 employees. Infosys reached 3,23,788 employees, with a minimal addition of 210. HCL Tech’s total employee count stood at 2,23,000 after a net addition of 269. Wipro diverged by recording a decline, with its headcount dropping by 114 to 2,33,232 employees.
TCS announced plans to hire 42,000 freshers this fiscal, maintaining last year’s hiring pace. Infosys is also proceeding with its hiring strategy, targeting over 20,000 freshers in FY26. HCL Tech added 1,984 freshers in Q1, up from 1,805 in the previous quarter, while Wipro has not publicly disclosed fresher hiring numbers for the period.

Salary discussions across all 4 companies remain cautious. TCS deferred its annual hike, usually announced in April, indicating that a final decision is pending. Infosys and HCL Tech also did not commit to any updates regarding increments. Wipro likewise provided no updates on employee salary hikes for Q1FY26.
During Q1FY26, HCL Tech stood out with stable attrition and consistent hiring, while other IT majors reported marginal rises in attrition. Hiring plans remain resilient, with fresher recruitment staying intact even as wage hikes see delays amid uncertain global IT demand.
