In a significant move aimed at improving worker welfare, the Haryana government has announced a 35% increase in minimum wages across all categories of workers. The decision, approved by the state cabinet, will be implemented retrospectively from April 1, 2026.
The announcement was made by Labour Minister Anil Vij, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stating that the revision will benefit lakhs of workers by enhancing their income levels and overall quality of life.
The wage hike applies uniformly to unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers, reflecting a broad-based policy push.
| Category | Previous Wage (₹/month) | Revised Wage (₹/month) | Increase (₹) | % Hike |
| Unskilled Workers | ₹11,274.60 | ₹15,220.00 | ₹3,945.40 | 35% |
| Semi-Skilled Workers | ₹12,430.18 | ₹16,780.74 | ₹4,350.56 | 35% |
| Skilled Workers | ₹13,704.31 | ₹18,500.81 | ₹4,796.50 | 35% |
| Highly Skilled Workers | ₹14,389.52 | ₹19,425.85 | ₹5,036.33 | 35% |
Each category reflects a uniform 35% increase, signalling a structured and consistent revision framework.
The wage revision follows recommendations made by an expert committee during the state budget process. The Haryana cabinet has now formally approved these recommendations, allowing the revised wages to take effect retrospectively.
According to government statements, the move aligns with the broader framework of new labour codes, which aim to standardise wages, enhance transparency, and strengthen worker protections across sectors.
The state government has positioned this hike as part of its larger welfare agenda. Officials have emphasised that improving wages is essential not only for worker well-being but also for boosting consumption and supporting economic growth.
The government has also indicated that further steps may be taken to strengthen social security, healthcare access, and working conditions for labourers in the state.
The 35% increase in minimum wages marks one of the most substantial revisions in recent years for Haryana’s workforce. While the immediate impact will be improved incomes for workers, the broader implications could include higher consumption demand and better living standards. As implementation begins, the focus will remain on how effectively these changes translate into tangible economic and social benefits.
