
In March, PSU mutual funds saw an outflow of ₹4,498 crore, showing a change from the previous month's trend, as per Vallum Capital report.
Despite posting strong long-term returns, these funds experienced significant withdrawals, particularly in sectors like consumption and technology.
The outflow of ₹4,498 crore from PSU mutual funds in March marked a decrease from February's ₹5,389 crore outflow.
According to Vallum Capital, the total AUM of PSU funds stood at ₹47,896 crore, offering a 3.7% return in March.
Over the past 3 years, these funds achieved a 30.8% gain, with longer horizons showing growth and rallying figures of 28.7% over 5 years and 18.2% over 10 years.
The consumption sector experienced an outflow of ₹351 crore, alongside other affected sectors including auto, technology, and ESG.
Notably, manufacturing witnessed an inflow of ₹373 crore, an upswing of ₹634 crore, while infrastructure and defence sectors attracted ₹279 crore and ₹132 crore, respectively.
This indicates a pivot towards domestic capital expenditure (capex) themes.
Investor sentiment reflected a shifting focus, with net asset-level flows reversing from Rs 73,589 crore in February to ₹2,20,797 crore in March.
The money market saw massive outflows of ₹1.95 lakh crore, and fixed income segments continued experiencing redemption pressures.
However, large-cap funds absorbed ₹28,558 crore.

Large-cap funds saw a surge in investments with ₹28,558 crore inflows, indicating a shift towards these safer investment options.
Meanwhile, arbitrage funds experienced significant outflows of ₹22,182 crore, contrasting the trend in large-cap funds.
Globally, the emerging markets ex-China outperformed significantly, with the Brazil ETF growing by 17.1% in 1 month.
Cyclical rotations and currency fluctuations have contributed to these varied growth patterns.
