Serentica Renewables has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 100 megawatt (MW) clean energy project. The announcement was made on Thursday.
As per the news reports, this is India’s first “load-following” PPA, designed with SECI and state distribution companies to match seasonal demand patterns. The agreement requires electricity delivery aligned with the actual demand of buyers on an hourly or sub-hourly basis.
Serentica must fulfil 80% of the specified hourly demand each month. The supply commitments will range from 17 MW during low-demand hours to 100 MW during peak demand.
To meet the demand-linked supply, the company will use a combination of wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This mix is intended to balance variable generation and ensure round-the-clock availability.
The project is expected to generate more than 400 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually. Tariff details and the project location have not been disclosed.
Load-following PPAs differ from traditional fixed-supply agreements by linking generation with real-time consumption. The arrangement plans to create a closer match between renewable energy supply and grid demand.

The 100 MW project, backed by Serentica Renewables and SECI, introduces the first load-following PPA in India. With obligations ranging between 17 MW and 100 MW, and an expected annual output of over 400 GWh, the project establishes a new structure for clean power supply in the country.
