The Andhra Pradesh government has approved renewable energy projects worth ₹43,358 crore, as per news reports. The clearances, granted by the State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) last week, cover a total generation capacity of more than 2,600 megawatts (MW).

Companies and Investments

Clearances were given to 11 companies. These include Hexa Energy, Serentica Renewables, Brightfuture Power, and Clean Renewable Energy. Public sector firm Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has also applied to set up 1,200 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage in Nandyal.

Pumped Storage Expansions

Reports suggest that a large portion of the investments is tied to pumped storage power projects. Navayuga Engineering will expand its Gujjili project in Alluri Sitharama Raju district from 1,500 MW to 2,400 MW with an outlay of ₹15,455 crore. Chinta Green Energy has proposed an expansion in YSR Kadapa district from 350 MW to 2,400 MW, involving ₹15,050 crore.

Wind Power Addition

Serentica Renewables will develop 550 MW of wind projects across Ananthapur and Kurnool districts, investing ₹2,400 crore. Brightfuture Power has identified land in Ananthapur for a 350 MW wind unit at a cost of ₹3,286 crore. Hexa Energy received approval for a 100 MW hybrid solar and wind project involving ₹1,200 crore.

As per news reports, since June 2024, the state has drawn renewable energy commitments worth ₹2.2 trillion. The ICE Policy has set a target of 160 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy with potential investments estimated at ₹10 trillion.

With the latest clearances, Andhra Pradesh is preparing for over 2,600 MW of new renewable capacity, spread across pumped storage, wind, solar, and battery storage projects.
