The Indian stock market moved higher mainly because the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points and signalled 1 more cut next year. This pushed the US dollar and bond yields lower, improving global sentiment and attracting buying in heavyweight stocks such as HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Reliance Industries.
Most Nifty 50 stocks ended in the green, and the biggest gainers were Adani Enterprises, Jio Financial Services and Tata Steel. These companies saw strong demand and contributed significantly to the index’s rise.
A few stocks ended lower despite the market rally. Asian Paints, SBI Life Insurance and Bharti Airtel were the top losers, slipping slightly as traders booked profits or shifted focus to other sectors.
All major sectors saw buying interest. Auto, metal and pharma sectors each gained around 1%, while the IT index also moved up nearly 1%. Banking stocks performed steadily, with Nifty Bank ending 0.42% higher at 59,209.85, reflecting broad-based optimism across sectors.
Several small and mid-sized companies saw sharp gains of over 15% on the BSE. These included Rapid Multimodal Logistics, Octaware Technologies, Dhillon Freight Carrier, SecMark Consultancy and Rico Auto Industries, indicating strong interest in select midcap names.
The overall market breadth favoured the bulls. Out of 4,341 stocks traded on the BSE, 2,448 advanced, while 1,742 declined and 151 remained unchanged. This shows that buying was widespread across the market.
A large number of stocks touched their 52-week highs during the session. Companies such as Samvardhana Motherson International, Eicher Motors, Cummins India, Vodafone Idea and Esab India were among those hitting fresh yearly highs.

At the same time, more than 160 stocks hit their 52-week lows. This list included Trent, NCC, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, Piramal Pharma, PCBL Chemical, Page Industries, Vedant Fashions, Dixon Technologies, Blue Dart Express and BASF India, reflecting mixed performance in certain sectors.
The market ended the day on a positive note, driven by the US Fed’s rate cut and easing global cues.
