Rapido has overtaken Uber in India in terms of active Android users, fuelled by its stronghold in the bike taxi and autorickshaw segments. Its rise signals the breakdown of the Ola-Uber duopoly and a shift in user behaviour toward high-frequency, low-cost, multi-modal urban transport.
According to Sensor Tower data, Rapido now boasts over five crore Android users in India, surpassing Uber’s base of around three crore. Given Android’s 90%+ market share in India, this signals Rapido’s strong lead in daily user engagement in the app economy's largest consumer segment.
Rapido’s growth hinges on its strategic dominance in bike taxis and auto rickshaws, which offer faster ETAs and lower fares than traditional cabs. These high-frequency categories align better with short-haul urban use cases, creating repeat engagement and deeper market penetration.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi recently acknowledged Rapido as Uber’s main competitor in India, signalling a major strategic shift in perception and validating Rapido’s rapid share gains. Ola, once part of the cab duopoly, continues to face headwinds in service reliability and driver retention.
Having started as a bike-taxi platform in 2015, Rapido now offers autos and cabs, building a broader surface mobility portfolio. It is also piloting a food delivery service in Bengaluru, which could replicate the "super app" approach seen in other markets, further deepening user engagement and monetisation.
As of July 2025, Rapido's monthly active users rival Zomato and are closing in on Swiggy, underlining its emergence as one of India’s most-used digital platforms not just in mobility but across consumer internet use cases.

According to Citi analysts, Rapido’s food-delivery pilot could open new monetisation paths and lower customer acquisition costs via multi-vertical retention. The move may intensify competition across both mobility and delivery sectors.
India’s consumer watchdog fined Rapido’s parent ₹10 lakh for misleading ads tied to "Guaranteed Auto" and "Auto in 5 min or get ₹50" claims. Regulatory compliance on ads and two-wheeler taxi rules will be crucial as the platform continues to scale.
