Nvidia Plans AI-Powered Laptop Chips in Bid to Re-Enter Consumer PC Market

Nvidia is planning a return to the consumer PC market with AI-focused laptop processors, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The chips are expected to be supplied to manufacturers including Dell Technologies and Lenovo. However, additional PC makers may be added later.
Shift Towards Integrated Chips
The report said Nvidia is developing processors that combine central processing units (CPUs) and its graphics processing units (GPUs) within a single package. The company’s GPUs are used in artificial intelligence systems and data centre operations.
The integrated design is similar to the system-on-chip structure commonly seen in smartphones. Such a format can reduce space requirements inside laptops and improve power management. It would also allow certain AI-based tasks to run directly on the device instead of relying entirely on remote servers.
2 Partnership Approaches
The first route involves working with Taiwan-based chip designer MediaTek to develop an Arm-based processor. Early models using this chip could be launched in the first half of 2026, potentially in devices from Dell and Lenovo.
The second approach centres on collaboration with Intel. In this arrangement, Intel’s CPUs would be paired with Nvidia’s graphics and AI components for Windows laptops. The plan is to offer an alternative to devices such as Apple’s MacBook in terms of performance and energy use.
Market Background
Around 150 million laptops are sold globally each year. Nvidia’s recent financial growth has been largely driven by demand for AI chips used in data centres. Entering the consumer PC segment again would expand its exposure beyond enterprise infrastructure.

Conclusion
If implemented, the initiative would represent Nvidia’s re-entry into mainstream laptops, with processors to support AI functions within everyday computing devices.
