Apple Inc. has initiated a major internal restructuring that involves the elimination of dozens of roles within its global sales division, as per Bloomberg. Even as the tech giant registers robust revenue growth, it is focusing on streamlining operations and reducing costs tied to institutional sales.
Apple has confirmed a limited set of layoffs across its global sales department, affecting account managers and staff managing briefings for enterprise clients. These changes are intended to eliminate redundant functions and ensure operational efficiency as Apple shifts to relying more on third-party resellers. Though the total number was not disclosed, the impact spans several teams, including government and institutional sales units.
The reductions are unfolding despite Apple nearing all-time record revenue with nearly $140 billion expected for the December quarter. Affected employees have until January 20, 2026, to secure new positions within Apple or will be offered a severance package.
The restructuring disproportionately impacted roles linked to government sales, primarily working with agencies such as the US Justice and Defence Departments. These teams had already been strained due to changing federal budgets and procurement rules.
In addition, briefing centre employees focused on enterprise product demonstrations also faced job losses. Longtime employees, including those with 20 to 30 years of service, were among those let go.

Alongside job cuts, there are changes in leadership within sales operations. Vivek Thakkar is now leading all enterprise and education sales under the guidance of Vice President Mike Fenger and CEO Tim Cook. While Apple rarely executes mass layoffs, it did trim staff in 2024 across self-driving cars, AI research, and internal display projects.
Apple’s decision to restructure its sales operations and cut multiple jobs indicates a strategic pivot towards greater efficiency. Despite strong financial performance, the emphasis appears to be on maintaining leaner internal processes and streamlining sales through third-party partners.
