The Centre has made it compulsory for farmers to provide a Farmer ID in 14 states for new registrations under the PM-KISAN scheme. This was confirmed in a written reply by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur in the Lok Sabha on August 05, 2025, Monday.
The government stated there is no proposal under consideration to revise the ₹6,000 annual support currently offered under the scheme. This amount is paid in 3 equal instalments of ₹2,000 each.
Currently, there is no proposal under consideration to increase the benefit amount under the PM Kisan Scheme.
PM-KISAN was rolled out in February 2019. Since then, the government has transferred over ₹3.90 lakh crore to eligible farmers in 20 instalments. The benefit is sent directly to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The scheme applies to farmers with cultivable land. Those in higher income brackets are excluded from receiving the benefit. Land ownership remains the main eligibility criterion.
To streamline delivery, a digital setup has been implemented to eliminate intermediaries. Farmers can register via multiple modes, including self-registration, CSC (Common Service Centre), operator mode involving state officials, and Sahayak mode.
If there are errors or disputes during registration, state governments can raise the issues with the district administrations. Authorised field-level officers are responsible for addressing such cases.

With Farmer ID now required in 14 states, the government is moving toward tighter verification processes. However, the overall structure and benefit amount of the PM-KISAN scheme remain unchanged for now.
