The Ministry of Petroleum has called on residents to refrain from panic booking of LPG cylinders amidst concerns of LPG shortages. This announcement comes in conjunction with a 28% boost in production, designed to alleviate any supply worries.
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), recently addressed the press, providing reassurance about LPG supply levels across India.
She stated that there is no actual shortage of cylinders and stressed that LPG production has increased by 28% following recent government directives.
The Indian retail network encompasses 1,00,000 outlets, with none reporting shortages, and service is supported by 25,000 distributors nationwide, ensuring steady distribution.
The surge in LPG cylinder bookings, largely due to panic buying, has been noted with concern. Sujata Sharma emphasised to the public to refrain from such practices, as they might contribute to unnecessary disruptions.
Steps are being taken to manage demand better, including the release of some commercial LPG cylinders in collaboration with state governments. An additional 48,000 kilolitres of kerosene is also being distributed to states.

In efforts to diversify and ease the load on conventional LPG supply channels, the government is actively exploring alternative fuel solutions. The quarterly allocation policy, wherein approximately 1,00,000 kilolitres of kerosene is disbursed to the states each quarter, remains in place. Continued monitoring and adjustment ensure that demands are met without disruption.
The Ministry's assurance of increased production and strategic distribution should ease concerns about LPG availability. Through careful planning and coordination, authorities are aiming to mitigate panic and ensure a consistent supply of essential fuel across the nation.
