Indian stock markets ended almost flat on Tuesday, but with a slightly negative tone. Strong buying in PSU bank, metal, and auto stocks was balanced out by selling pressure in IT, FMCG, and pharma shares.

By the end of the session, the BSE Sensex slipped 20.46 points (0.02%) to close at 84,675.08, while the NSE Nifty50 edged down 3.25 points (0.01%) to 25,938.85.

In the broader market, performance was weaker. The Nifty Midcap 100 declined 0.15%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 0.28%, reflecting mild selling in mid- and small-cap stocks.
