Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has been declared the successful bidder for an inter-state transmission system project aimed at strengthening renewable energy integration in Karnataka.
The project has been awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis.
The project involves the development of transmission infrastructure to support additional renewable energy capacity at Davanagere and Bellary.
It includes a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line traversing Karnataka, along with associated line bays and augmentation works at the Davanagere and Bellary pooling stations.
The infrastructure is designed to enable evacuation of 0.25 GW of renewable energy from Davanagere and 2.75 GW from Bellary, supporting grid stability and renewable integration in the region.
The Letter of Intent for the project was issued on January 7, 2026, and received by Powergrid on January 8, 2026.
The award follows the standard TBCB mechanism, under which private and public entities compete on tariffs, with projects awarded to the lowest bidder while ensuring long-term operational responsibility.
The BOOT structure ensures that the asset will be transferred back after the concession period, aligning with India’s broader transmission sector monetisation and efficiency goals.

The award reinforces Powergrid’s dominant position in India’s inter-state transmission space and underlines its role in enabling large-scale renewable energy integration, as grid expansion accelerates to meet the country’s clean energy targets.
