Paint stocks jump up to 5% as oil prices ease, but remain weak in 2026, falling up to 38% due to high crude costs and poor performance.

Shares of paint companies like Asian Paints, Indigo Paints, Berger Paints India, Kansai Nerolac Paints, Shalimar Paints, and Sirca Paints India rose 3% to 5% in Tuesday’s intraday trade.

The rally was stronger than the broader market, where the BSE Sensex gained around 1.2% at the same time.

What’s Driving the Rally in Paint Stocks?

The main reason behind the rise is a fall in crude oil prices after easing geopolitical tensions. Lower oil prices help paint companies because crude is a key raw material.

Price Hike Plans by Companies

Asian Paints Ltd is planning a 6–8% price increase in 2 phases to offset high input costs.

  • This is higher than earlier planned hikes of 2–5%
  • Other companies like Berger Paints India Ltd and Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd have already taken 2–3% hikes, with more expected

Weak Performance in 2026

Despite today’s gains, paint stocks have underperformed in 2026:

  • Indigo Paints Ltd: down ~38%
  • Shalimar Paints Ltd: down ~34%
  • Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd: down ~33%
  • Asian Paints Ltd: down ~21%

Most of these stocks also hit their 52-week lows recently.

Conclusion

Paint stocks are seeing a short-term bounce due to easing oil prices, but the sector remains under pressure. Future performance will depend on crude price trends and the success of price hikes.
