Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has increased its holding in Adani Group-owned cement company ACC Ltd, crossing the 10% shareholding mark.

The insurer bought 37,82,029 additional shares, equal to 2.014% of ACC’s equity, through open market purchases made between 20 May 2025 and 25 November 2025.

After the transaction, LIC now owns 1,98,97,064 shares, which is 10.596% of ACC’s paid-up capital. Earlier, it held 8.582%, or 1,61,15,035 shares.

LIC Also Increases Stake in NBCC (India)

LIC also stepped up its investment in NBCC (India), buying 30,24,672 shares, which represents 2.071% of its voting capital.

Post-purchase, LIC holds 12,08,91,590 shares, equal to 4.477% of NBCC’s equity.

Interestingly, LIC previously held 6.548%, but the percentage dropped despite buying more shares. This happened because NBCC’s voting capital jumped from 180 crore shares to 270 crore shares, lowering the ownership percentage.

LIC clarified that all purchases were made only through the open market, with no involvement of preferential allotment, rights issue, or off-market deals. The buying period spanned 25 April 2018 to 24 November 2025.

  • down 15% in 1 year

In today’s trade, the stock slipped 0.6% to an intraday low of ₹1,855.85, and is now 20% below its 52-week high of ₹2,324.95.

Today, the stock gained 1%, hitting a high of ₹118.55, and is currently 9% below its 52-week high of ₹130.60.

Conclusion

LIC’s increased stakes in ACC and NBCC show its confidence in both companies, despite their different stock trends. While ACC has seen a decline this year, NBCC continues to deliver strong returns. LIC’s long-term buying pattern suggests it views both stocks as solid long-term bets, even in a changing market environment.
