Larsen & Toubro (L&T) plans to commission 18 MW of additional data centre capacity by the end of the current financial year, as per PTI report.
This will take the company’s total operational capacity to around 32 MW. At present, about 14 MW is already operational, while the rest is expected to come online before March. The update was shared during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.
The total capital expenditure for the data centre project is estimated at around ₹1,000 crore. The spending covers the construction and commissioning of the facilities.
The expansion is part of the company’s push into digital infrastructure, where demand has grown alongside cloud computing and enterprise data storage.
In the semiconductor business, L&T said it is working on design-led chips and is in discussions with multiple customers.
Most of the spending in this segment is being treated as an expense through the profit and loss account. The company did not provide detailed timelines for commercial roll-outs.
The company also gave an update on its electrolyser business. It has developed a fully indigenous 4 MW electrolyser stack and is in the process of scaling it up to an 8-10 MW configuration. Management said it expects orders to come in as projects in the green hydrogen space pick up.
L&T reported consolidated profit after tax of ₹3,215 crore for the December quarter, compared with ₹3,359 crore in the same period last year.
The 4.2% decline was largely due to a one-time provision of ₹1,191 crore towards employee benefits linked to new labour codes. The amount was recorded under exceptional items.
