Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for a massive clean energy expansion, with solar power projects worth around ₹35,000 crore in the pipeline, as per Business Standard. Aimed at achieving 22,000 MW solar capacity by 2027-28, this effort includes the development of 7 large solar energy parks totalling 3,700 MW, to be set up by public and private players, including NHPC, THDC, and Avaada Group.
These solar parks are a central part of the state’s renewable roadmap. According to Uttar Pradesh's Additional Chief Secretary for Energy and Alternative Energy Sources, Narendra Bhooshan, top developers like NHPC, THDC, and Avaada Group will lead the execution of these projects.
This initiative will help the state meet its solar target of 22,000 MW by 2028 while attracting significant clean energy investments.
NHPC, primarily known for its hydropower legacy, is now a leading public-sector player in India’s renewable transition. As of 2025, the company is managing over 27,000 MW of clean energy capacity across different development stages.
Recent milestones include the 300 MW Bikaner (Karnisar) solar project becoming operational and several large pumped storage ventures under collaboration with state utilities.

This investment aligns with NHPC’s strategic vision of reaching 16,700 MW of renewable capacity by 2030 and 23 GW of total installed capacity by 2032. It also supports India’s national target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. NHPC’s involvement ensures strong public-sector support in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward energy transition and grid decarbonisation.
NHPC’s role in Uttar Pradesh’s ₹35,000 crore solar initiative highlights its leadership in India’s green energy drive. Alongside key partners, the company is helping build a cleaner, more sustainable power infrastructure, accelerating both state and national renewable ambitions.
