PayU has partnered with 8B to enable Indian payment methods across parts of Central Asia. The collaboration aims to integrate India’s digital payment ecosystem, including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), into the merchant networks operated by 8B across several countries in the region.

The integration will allow Indian travellers to make payments using familiar options such as UPI, net banking, and cards when visiting Central Asian markets. The initiative is expected to make transactions easier for Indian tourists by removing the need for additional payment setup or changes in their usual payment habits.

UPI Integration Across Multiple Countries

Through this partnership, UPI and other domestic payment methods will be available to merchants across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, along with nearby markets. Transactions will be processed through existing merchant infrastructure, with UPI added as an additional payment rail.

For merchants in these countries, the integration could enable them to accept payments directly from Indian tourists through commonly used apps and platforms in India. This may reduce payment friction, improve checkout convenience, and potentially increase transaction success rates.

Growing Travel and Economic Links

The development comes at a time when travel and economic ties between India and Central Asia are expanding. India’s outbound tourism spending reached $18.82 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow further over the coming years.

Central Asian destinations have also seen rising interest from Indian travellers. Kazakhstan has experienced a noticeable rise in Indian visitors, supported by improved flight connectivity and visa-free travel access. Uzbekistan has similarly recorded strong growth in arrivals from India during 2025, reflecting increasing travel demand.

Supporting Trade and Cross-Border Commerce

Beyond tourism, the payment integration could also strengthen commercial exchanges between the regions. India’s bilateral trade with Kazakhstan reached $923.3 million in 2025, with cross-border consumer transactions forming a part of this economic relationship.

By enabling seamless digital payments, the partnership may help Indian consumers purchase goods and services from Central Asian businesses more easily, supporting both tourism spending and small-scale trade.

Conclusion

The collaboration between PayU and 8B represents a step toward expanding India’s digital payment ecosystem globally. By enabling UPI payments across Central Asia, the initiative could simplify transactions for Indian travellers while also encouraging tourism, trade, and cross-border commerce between the two regions.
