The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) very recently introduced the National Pension System (NPS) for Goa’s driver community. The launch took place in Panjim with the support of GoaMiles and HDFC Pension Fund (PoP). The state’s Transport Minister, Shri Mauvin Godinho, attended the event.
The initiative will cover about 5,000 drivers associated with the GoaMiles platform. During the launch, 50 Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRANs) were handed over to drivers as a symbolic rollout. GoaMiles will contribute to each driver’s NPS account in addition to their own savings.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said drivers are key representatives of Goa’s culture and hospitality. He noted that the scheme will add financial protection for those working in the informal sector and connect with larger national development goals.
He added, “Goa, though India’s smallest state, has consistently led by example, and this initiative is yet another testament to our commitment to inclusive growth. It aligns perfectly with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, and I am confident that Goa will continue to be at the forefront of progressive and people-centric reforms.”
As per the PIB, Shri. Raman said, “Let’s grow rich before we grow old. The power of compounding is real—and when tapped into early, even modest savings can grow into a substantial and dignified retirement corpus. NPS is built on this very principle: to provide every Indian with a structured, long-term, and inclusive savings solution.”
Sriram Iyer, MD and CEO of HDFC Pension Fund, said the collaboration with GoaMiles would help drivers access flexible pension products. He pointed out that retirement planning should be made accessible to individuals in informal and unorganised sectors as well.

Utkarsh Dabhade, CEO of GoaMiles, said the company has focused on providing sustainable opportunities for drivers. By extending NPS coverage, GoaMiles aims to support drivers’ financial future while contributing directly to their accounts.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Sumit Kumar, Chief General Manager, PFRDA. The initiative brings out PFRDA’s mission of “Every Profession, One Pension” and continues its outreach campaign under the message “NPS Zaruri Hai.”
