The last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is December 31, 2025. Taxpayers who fail to complete the linking process risk having their PAN cards marked inoperative, impacting essential financial transactions.

Mandatory Aadhaar PAN Linking by December 31, 2025

As per the Income Tax Department, individuals who were allotted PAN on or before July 1, 2017, must mandatorily link it with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. Failure to do so will render the PAN inoperative, disrupting financial and tax-related services.

A late fee of ₹1,000 is applicable for those completing the process after the initial deadlines. However, taxpayers who received their PAN using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID after October 1, 2024, are exempt from the penalty and can still link free of cost till the deadline.

Steps to Link PAN with Aadhaar

To link your PAN and Aadhaar, visit the Income Tax e-filing portal and log in. Navigate to the ‘Profile’ section and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.

Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and proceed to pay through the ‘e-Pay Tax’ facility. After payment, complete the linking process through the same portal.

Check Aadhaar PAN Link Status Online

To confirm the linking status, go to the Income Tax e-filing website and click on ‘Link Aadhaar Status’. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number. Upon submission, the portal will display the status on-screen. This helps ensure that your PAN remains operative.

Correct Errors in PAN Aadhaar Information

If there are mismatches in details between PAN and Aadhaar, corrections can be made. Visit the UIDAI portal to update Aadhaar information and either the Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL websites to correct PAN data. In persistent cases, biometric verification may be necessary at authorised PAN service centres.

Conclusion

The Income Tax Department has emphasised the mandatory nature of the Aadhaar PAN linking. With only 3 days remaining from the current date, taxpayers should act promptly to avoid service disruptions and penalties.
