In a move to make life easier for senior citizens, especially those living in rural and remote areas, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has approved a partnership with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB). This initiative will allow pensioners to submit their Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) from the comfort of their homes.
EPFO will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IPPB to start this service under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS’95). Through this tie-up, EPS’95 pensioners can use IPPB’s wide postal network to get their life certificates verified and submitted without visiting any bank branch or EPFO office.
Each certificate costs ₹50, but EPFO will bear this cost entirely, making the service free for pensioners. The Ministry of Labour & Employment said that the goal is to improve convenience, ensure timely pension payments, and simplify the process for elderly pensioners.
The new doorstep service will be a big relief for pensioners, especially those in rural or hilly areas who often face difficulty in travelling to submit their life certificates. Postal staff will visit pensioners at home and help them complete the process digitally using IPPB’s technology.
This initiative will also support the Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS), which improves accuracy and ensures that pension records are updated in real time. Timely submission of the life certificate is important to avoid delays or stoppage of monthly pension payments.
EPFO has set clear timelines for submitting the annual Life Certificate:
Submitting the certificate on time ensures uninterrupted pension payments.

The EPFO-IPPB partnership marks a major step toward making pension services more accessible and senior-friendly. By bringing the Digital Life Certificate service to pensioners’ doorsteps free of charge, the government aims to enhance ease of living and ensure that no pensioner is left behind, regardless of where they live.
