Amid viral messages claiming another extension, the Income Tax Department has confirmed that the ITR filing due date remains September 15, 2025, urging reliance on official updates only and noting round the clock helpdesk support for return filing, tax payments, and related services.

ITR deadline remains September 15, 2025

The department dismissed social media rumours of a shift to September 30, 2025, stating the official last date is unchanged at September 15, 2025 after the earlier move from 31.07.2025.

Officials reiterated that taxpayers should ignore fabricated notices and check verified communications from the @IncomeTaxIndia handle for any updates.

Fake circular flagged

A forged circular falsely claimed CBDT had extended the due date to September 30, 2025, but authorities called it fake and urged caution against misinformation.

Multiple outlets highlighted the clarification, confirming there is no further extension beyond September 15, 2025 for AY 2025 to 2026 filings.
