In a significant trade move influenced by geopolitical tensions, the Bangalore Wholesale Cloth Merchants Association (BWCMA) has suspended all textile imports and exports with Turkey and Azerbaijan. As per PTI, the decision follows both nations' recent expressions of support for Pakistan in the aftermath of India's ‘Operation Sindoor’. The BWCMA, which represents around 3,000 wholesale cloth merchants in Bengaluru, has urged stakeholders to comply with the resolution.

Trade Suspension in Response to Political Allegiances

BWCMA President stated that the decision was a unanimous one, made after careful deliberation among its members. The association cited ethical business practices and national sentiment as key reasons for taking a firm stand. According to them, the suspension covers not only direct trade but also indirect dealings through intermediaries or third-party countries involving textile goods linked to Turkey or Azerbaijan.

Scope of the Ban and Enforcement

Effective immediately, the ban includes the complete cessation of current and future textile imports from the two countries, as well as a halt to all exports. The association emphasised that this decision would remain in place until further notice. Any changes to the resolution would be announced officially by BWCMA’s governing body. It was noted that the trade volume with these nations runs into crores of rupees but did not disclose exact figures.

Call for Cooperation from Trade Ecosystem

The BWCMA has officially requested authorities, trade partners, logistics firms, and related stakeholders to cooperate with its members to ensure full compliance with the trade suspension. The association aims to ensure the enforcement of this decision without any breaches, direct or indirect, in the textile supply chain involving the two nations.

Conclusion

The association’s call for nationwide cooperation reflects the seriousness with which it views national interests.
