Infrastructure mutual funds, typically considered long-term growth plays, have shown signs of underperformance over the past year. A handful of popular schemes posted sharp 1-year losses, with returns falling as much as 14% due to sector-specific headwinds, macroeconomic concerns and volatility in capital expenditure-linked segments.

Top Infra Mutual Fund Losers in the Past Year

Quant Infrastructure Fund (Regular - Growth) reported a steep 1-year loss of −13.87%. With an AUM of ₹3,278.6 crore, it is managed by Sandeep Tandon and was among the worst-hit schemes despite its historically aggressive allocation model.

Tata Infrastructure Fund (Regular - Growth) followed closely with a −13.85% return over 1 year. Managed by Abhinav Sharma and holding an AUM of ₹2,223.9 crore, this fund also struggled amid market rotation and sectoral drag.

SBI and Bandhan Infra Funds are Also in the Negative Zone

SBI Infrastructure Fund (Regular - Growth) posted a −11.10% return over 1 year. With a large AUM of ₹4,969.2 crore, the fund is managed by Bhavin Vithlani. It suffered from underperformance in core infra and industrial holdings.

Bandhan Infrastructure Fund (Regular - Growth) delivered a −10.95% return in the same period. The fund, managed by Vishal Biraia, has an AUM of ₹1,675.9 crore and faced declines driven by weak returns in power and energy exposure.

Conclusion

Despite India’s long-term infrastructure story remaining intact, recent underperformance in some infra-focused mutual funds highlights the importance of sector rotation, fund strategy, and timing. Investors should assess fund consistency and macro exposure before making infra fund allocations.
