Samco Mutual Fund has announced the launch of the Samco Mid Cap Fund, an open-ended equity scheme focused on mid-cap stocks.

The new fund offer (NFO) will open for subscription on January 21, 2026, and close on February 4, 2026. After the NFO period, the scheme will be available for ongoing subscriptions and redemptions.

Investment Scope

The scheme will primarily invest in mid-cap companies ranked between 101 and 250 by market capitalisation. This segment typically includes businesses that have established operations and are in a phase of expansion.

The fund will allocate most of its assets to equities within this range, as per the investment mandate outlined by the fund house.

Investment Approach

The Samco Mid Cap Fund will follow a momentum-based investment framework using the fund house’s proprietary C.A.R.E. Momentum strategy. This framework assesses cross-sectional and absolute price movement, along with revenue and earnings trends.

Stock selection is based on a combination of quantitative filters and fundamental checks applied across the eligible mid-cap universe.

Mid-Cap Market Data

Mid-cap stocks have historically contributed to long-term equity returns in India. The Nifty Midcap 150 Total Returns Index (TRI) has recorded a compounded annual growth rate of 17.47% since inception.

Over extended periods, mid-cap indices have often outperformed large-cap benchmarks, though they are generally associated with higher price fluctuations.

Separately, momentum as an investment factor has outperformed broader indices by close to 6% CAGR over the past 20 years, according to industry data cited by the fund house.

Benchmark and Fund Management

The scheme is benchmarked against the Nifty Mid Cap 150 TRI. The fund will be managed by Umeshkumar Mehta.

According to the fund documents, the investment process is to follow predefined rules, with portfolio decisions guided by data-driven models rather than discretionary views.

Minimum Investment

The minimum lump-sum investment amount for the NFO is set at ₹5,000. Investors can also opt for systematic investment plans, with monthly contributions starting at ₹250. These limits are in line with common entry thresholds for equity mutual fund schemes.

Conclusion

The Samco Mid Cap Fund adds a new option within the mid-cap mutual fund category. The scheme is structured around a momentum-based methodology and will track a widely used mid-cap benchmark, while remaining exposed to market risks inherent to equity investments.
