William Grant & Sons, the Scotland-based premium spirits maker has launched an ultra-rare whisky in India called The Balvenie Fifty. This 50-year-old Speyside single malt, aged in a European oak refill cask since 1973, is available as a single bottle for collectors and whisky lovers. Priced at around ₹70 lakh, this exclusive release reflects the brand’s growing focus on the Indian market.
India has become a high-priority market for the family-owned company, which entered India 10 years ago. According to the Managing Director Sachin Mehta, India is now among their top ten markets globally, with strong potential to become one of the top five soon. The company has even established its own distribution operations in India, highlighting the country’s importance.
India is the largest whisky market in the world and is witnessing significant premiumisation, driven by factors like rising disposable incomes and an increasing population of millennials and professionals. Mehta notes that the Indian consumer is now seeking aspirational brands that offer great value, making Balvenie and other single malts highly attractive.
Along with the launch of Balvenie Fifty, William Grant & Sons recently added The Famous Grouse to its Indian portfolio. The brand’s flagship Glenfiddich is already one of the top-selling single malts in India. Balvenie, previously available only in select cities, is now expanding to more locations due to increased stock availability. The company is also promoting super-premium variants like The Balvenie Thirty and The Balvenie Twenty-Five, both limited editions catering to connoisseurs.
