UP Government Announces ₹6,000 Crore For Greenfield Township Projects

According to the news report, the Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a significant funding plan to develop modern, affordable greenfield townships across the state. With a focus on enhancing civic amenities, encouraging private investment and providing housing for various income groups, this initiative is set to transform the urban landscape of several Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
Allocation Of ₹6,000 Crore For Greenfield Township Development
The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated over ₹6,000 crore for greenfield township projects under the UP Township Policy 2023. These projects aim to create affordable and well-planned urban settlements equipped with quality civic infrastructure.
Locations And Scale Of The Projects
Around 18 townships are set to launch in cities such as Agra, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Banda, Bulandshahr, Rampur, Meerut, Kanpur, Jhansi, Moradabad, Mathura, Firozabad and Saharanpur. Each township will span at least 12.5 acres and will include amenities designed to improve the quality of life for residents.
Focus On Affordable Housing And Inclusivity
The UP Township Policy 2023 ensures that 10% of housing in each township will be reserved for the economically weaker section and low-income groups. The state will contribute 50% of the funds required for land acquisition, aiming to make these projects financially viable for developers and accessible for citizens.
Implementation Timeline And Monitoring
Some township projects are likely to commence next month, while others are expected to start in October around Diwali. The housing and urban planning department, led by Principal Secretary P. Guruprasad, has reviewed the progress and directed district development authorities to expedite land availability.
Provisions To Ensure Timely Completion
Strict provisions are in place to ensure the timely completion of these townships. Delays could lead to penalties and even confiscation of property. This approach is intended to maintain project quality and delivery schedules.
