Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (PV) recorded a modest increase in its share price following the launch of its new mid-size SUV, the Tata Sierra, priced at ₹11.49 lakh.
The company aims to expand its presence in the SUV segment, targeting 20–25% market share.
CEO Shailesh Chandra highlighted that the Sierra fills a gap in the portfolio and could support long-term growth, including plans for an EV variant, as per the CNBC TV18 report.
Tata Motors PV introduced the Sierra at an introductory price of ₹11.49 lakh on 25 November 2025.
The vehicle is positioned as a mid-size SUV to complement the company’s existing range and provide continuity for customers upgrading from smaller models such as the Tiago or Harrier Safari.
The launch reflects Tata Motors’ strategy to strengthen its position in the SUV market.
Currently, Tata Motors holds around 16–17% of the SUV segment. CEO Shailesh Chandra indicated that the company aims to increase this to between 20% and 25% with the Sierra. The new model is expected to fill a previously missing segment in Tata Motors’ portfolio, providing options for customers throughout their vehicle lifecycle.
Chandra explained that Tata Motors’ strategy allows customers to upgrade within the brand from entry-level models to larger SUVs ensuring continuity across the vehicle lifecycle.
The Sierra is seen as a key element in this strategy. The company has also committed to introducing an electric version of the Sierra, anticipated in the first half of the next financial year.
Tata Motors PV shares rose approximately 1.96% to ₹359.35. The stock opened at ₹354.45 and reached an intraday high of ₹362.85.
Conclusion
The launch of the Tata Sierra is aimed at filling a mid-size SUV gap while reinforcing Tata Motors’ brand portfolio strategy.
