The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Monday announced revised settlement timelines for the cash, derivatives, and Securities Lending and Borrowing Mechanism (SLBM) segments. The update follows the declaration of an additional settlement holiday on September 8, 2025, by clearing corporations in observance of Id-E-Milad, which fell on September 5.

To accommodate the change, SEBI issued the following revised settlement schedule:

1. Derivatives Segment: Settlements for trades executed on September 4 (Thursday), September 5 (Friday), and September 8 (Monday) will now be processed on September 9, 2025 (Tuesday).

2. Cash and SLBM Segments:

  • Trades executed on September 4 and 5 will also be settled on September 9, 2025 (Tuesday).
  • Trades conducted on September 8 and 9 will be settled on September 10, 2025 (Wednesday).

What are Settlement Holidays?

Settlement holidays are specific days when stock markets remain open for trading, but the depositories, NSDL and CDSL remain closed. As a result, no settlements of trades occur on these days. Additionally, auction markets also remain closed during settlement holidays.

Investors and traders can view the list of upcoming settlement holidays by referring to the holiday calendar available on the website.

The regulator stated that the revised timelines were decided in coordination with stock exchanges and clearing corporations to ensure operational continuity and minimise inconvenience for market participants.
