On October 16, 2025, Ola Electric took a significant step beyond electric mobility by launching its first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) called Ola Shakti. This marks the company's entry into India’s rapidly growing BESS market, which is projected to grow to over ₹3 Lakh Crore by 2030.
The launch of Ola Shakti is expected to revolutionise how Indian households, farms, and businesses access and manage energy, turning energy storage into an on-demand, portable resource.
Ola Shakti is India’s first fully domestically designed, engineered, and manufactured residential BESS. The product is powered by Ola’s cutting-edge 4680 Bharat Cells, a battery technology previously developed for electric vehicles.
The modular design of Ola Shakti ensures easy scalability and installation, making it ideal for home usage while also catering to larger energy storage needs in the future. The product is available in multiple configurations, including 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, at prices ranging from ₹29,999 to ₹1,59,999 for the first 10,000 units.
Ola Shakti offers numerous advanced features to enhance energy management for its users. It provides automotive-grade safety, high efficiency (up to 98%), and zero running or maintenance costs. Unlike traditional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, Ola Shakti boasts instant changeover time (0 ms) and operates across a wide voltage range (120V-290V). It is also weatherproof with IP67-rated batteries, making it suitable for a variety of conditions, from dusty to monsoon-prone environments.

Ola Electric expects to scale its BESS production to 5 GWh annually in the next few years, surpassing the company’s automotive consumption. With its Gigafactory infrastructure and nationwide distribution network, Ola aims to meet the increasing demand for clean, sustainable energy solutions in India.
The system is designed to power various appliances, including air conditioners, refrigerators, and farm pumps, with charging times as fast as 2 hours and up to 1.5 hours of backup capacity on full load.
