Indian equity markets started on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 on a muted but slightly positive note. The GIFT Nifty had already hinted at a quiet start, and the Nifty 50 opened 16 points higher at 25,855 while the Sensex rose 24 points to 84,690. The Bank Nifty also edged up by 106 points to 59,329. Mid-cap and small-cap indices continued to show resilience, with the Nifty Midcap opening 158 points higher at 59,834.
The broader market displayed mild strength even as the headline indices remained largely unchanged. Nifty’s small 0.06% rise and Sensex’s 0.03% uptick reflected cautious investor sentiment.
In the early minutes of trade, Grasim Industries, M&M, Hindalco Industries, Trent, and Tata Steel emerged as the top gainers within the Nifty 50 basket. On the other hand, JSW Steel, Bharti Airtel, Eternal (Zomato), Titan and Bajaj Finance were the major losers. This mixed movement shows a divergence in sector performance, with metals, autos, and retail stocks gaining while telecom and financials remained under pressure.
Several index-heavy stocks, such as Reliance Industries, M&M, ITC, Infosys, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, were among the most active movers in the early session. Their trading activity played a key role in shaping market direction during the initial hour.
The markets opened on a steady footing, with most major indices showing slight upward movement. Investors remain watchful of global trends and commodity price movements, especially as silver touches fresh all-time highs.
