Thales, the French defence and aerospace technology group, has entered into a long-term contract with IndiGo, India’s largest airline, to provide maintenance support for its expanding fleet. Announced on Wednesday, the deal spans 11 years and reflects IndiGo’s strategy to strengthen operations as its order book grows.

Contract Details and Scope

The agreement covers maintenance for 430 Airbus A320 aircraft already in IndiGo’s fleet, along with a future order exceeding 800 A32X planes. This makes it one of the most comprehensive aviation maintenance partnerships in India. The contract will cover over 1,200 planes.

The work will be handled at Thales’s newly established avionics maintenance facility in Gurugram, located close to Delhi airport, which is designed to support the growing demand for aviation services in the region.

Digital Solutions and Sustainability Push

Alongside the maintenance deal, IndiGo has extended a separate 5-year contract with Thales subsidiary AvioBook. Through AvioBook’s electronic flight bag solution, the airline is able to significantly cut paper use, streamlining cockpit operations while reinforcing its sustainability agenda. Notably, Thales has not disclosed the financial value of these agreements.
